How Dance Command works for instructors
Charge your students and get booked to teach: take cards on your phone, sell lesson packs, answer the nights organizers offer you, and get paid into your own Stripe.
Your first day
- Your page: city, a line about you, at least one style you teach, and your rates. Organizers read it before they book you; your rates stay private.
- Get paid: set up your own Stripe account. Stripe asks for your identity and bank once.
- Your phone: get the Dance Command app and allow notifications.
- Take a card for your first lesson: one practice tap on your phone. It is a real charge with the usual transaction fee; refund it from Money after.
Charging your students
- When students pay you (a card tapped on your phone, a pay link, a pack): the transaction fee is 7.5% + $1.00, online or in person (10% with no fixed part on anything under $10, never under $0.50), one fee with nothing on top. The charge screen shows the fee, and who pays it, before you take the card; the rest lands in your own Stripe account.
- When an organizer pays you for a night you teach, they pay a lower transaction fee (the one for paying your people), and you get the whole amount, in your bank on Stripe's payout schedule.
- Automatic pay (paid as soon as you check in, or when the night ends) happens only where the organizer has switched it on. Everywhere else the organizer presses Pay.
- Refunds are yours to give, from Money in the app, on any charge you took.
- Lesson packs: sell several lessons at once; mark a lesson taught and one comes off the pack.
- Students and hours: keep your students in the app and set the hours they can book you.
Getting booked
- Organizers ask you night by night. Accepting a connection books nothing; it puts you on their list. Every night still asks you, unless you switch on "Book me without asking" for that organizer.
- Offers land in the app's Bookings tab. Accept or pass in one tap; an accepted night goes on your calendar with the address and who to call.
- Check in when you arrive, or let the app do it when you walk in.
Who sees you
- Organizers and studios on Dance Command find you in Find people from the day you sign up. What you teach, your city and your line about you decide how high you come up. They see your page and ask; your rates stay private.
- Your own page on Dance Command is public: the link in Share is the one to put in your bio.
- Dance Seekers: put yourself on it from Your page with "Put me on Dance Seekers". It takes about two minutes and your card is live right away. Dancers can ask you for a private lesson from your card, and the request lands in Lessons.
- An organizer you work with can also add you to their own Dance Seekers page. That is an extra, not the way on.
Notifications
- New offers, lesson requests and messages reach your phone as they happen.
- On your phone: push notifications for answers, work and reminders are on once you allow them; news is off. Quiet hours (11 pm to 9 am) hold work and reminder pushes until morning. Change it all in Notifications.
- Email: messages a person wrote, booking asks, invites, receipts and sign-in codes always come. Automatic emails (the morning summary, reminders, nudges) are off unless you switch them on.
Other hats
One email can hold several hats, each with its own name, page and Stripe.
Still stuck? Email hello@dancecommand.com - a person answers.
